On the Ranch

Once again, Kiley Ranch will hold its Fall Harvest Festival 10:00am to 2:00pm on October 18th at the Kiley Ranch Welcome Center. We will be partnering with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada to collect food and monetary donations and in exchange, will be giving away free pumpkins. All we ask is that you give a $5 cash donation or five cans of food, and you’ll get a free pumpkin  while supplies last (one per child please). Come out and enjoy face painting, a farmers’ market, and activities and fun for the whole family. Can’t wait to see you there! August 27 kicks off the 20th Annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cookoff in Victorian Square in Sparks that will run through September 1.  In addition to all the glorious ribs and other tasty treats, there will be craft vendors, live entertainment, and activities for the whole family.  For more information, check out www.nuggetribcookoff.com.

In celebration of Heart Month, Kiley Ranch will  be holding Love Your Heart Day on February 23rd from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Kiley Ranch Welcome Center. Representatives from the American Heart Association will be on hand to discuss heart health as well as fitness professionals from 24 Hour Fitness and experts on nutrition. We will also be serving heart healthy snacks and refreshments. In addition to the educational opportunities inside the Welcome Center, United Blood Services will be on hand in the parking lot collecting blood donations. Each blood donor will be entered in United Blood Services’ monthly drawing for a $250 Visa gift card! I know it’s hard to believe that February is just a few days away, but Friday is February 1st and also National “Go Red” Day For Women. Go Red is a national movement by the American Heart Association to raise awareness about the number 1 killer of women - Heart Disease. So get out your red on Friday and support a great cause! Not only is “Go Red” Day on February 1st, but all of February is dedicated to heart health as well. Heart Month just so happens to coincide with that holiday of the heart that we all “heart” so much…Valentines Day! So do something for yourself and the one you love by learning how to be more heart healthy. Kiley Ranch will be holding a “Love Your Heart” day on February 23rd from 10:00 to 2:00. Festivities will include a United Blood Services Blood Drive as well as experts on such areas as fitness, nutrition, and health. Believe it or not it is already January 7th, 2008! The New Year is well underway and here at Kiley Ranch we intend to make it a memorable one. That means more opportunities for you to get out in your own communtiy and enjoy all that it has to offer. For instance, we are working on bringing a weekly farmers’ market to Kiley Ranch, as well as several exciting monthly events. Be sure to stop by the welcome center  and check back here often to see what’s coming up. We welcome any suggestions you may have as well!

Even if you can’t make it out to join us on Saturday, December 8th, be sure to stop in the Kiley Ranch Welcome Center Wednesday thru Sunday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm throughout the entire month of December and check out the lovely art on display. You will have the opportunity to view wonderful pieces from the local artist’s of Artouring and the Artist’s Co-op, and if something strikes your fancy, you will even have the option to purchase the piece.

 Artouring gives members of the public the opportunity to visit local artist’s studios and get a behind-the-scenes look at their craft. Participants can ask artists about their techniques and inspiration and get a detailed look at how beautiful pieces are created. The Reno Artist’s Co-op is a group of local artists who specialize in many different mediums.  You can see their pieces displayed at many different venues throughout the area including the Artist’s Co-op at 627 Mill St. For more information, please call 775-322-8896.
