Green Byte V6: “Have an Organic Thanksgiving”
November 19th, 2007 | General, Green Byte
A recent poll conducted for the Grocery Manufacturers of America (GMA) showed that 51% of Americans will make at least one organic dish this Thanksgiving holiday.
The recent involvement of the USDA in certifying what is and what is not organic has not only raised awareness of organic foods, but it has also increased the demand and the market segment of the organic foods movement.
Start by asking your local grocer what organic (free-range) meat, fruits, veggies and other items they offer. It might be difficult to locate all of your Thanksgiving Day items in one place.
Diamond Organics has been listed by many national websites as a great place to purchase organic turkeys. They carry a wide array of organic products and are based in Central California - not too far from home.
Also remember to reduce your trash and practice recycling during the holidays. All of the pumpkin filling cans and plastic sour cream containers should be rinsed and placed in your recycling bins for pickup. Try to seek out the biodegradable plates and cups and avoid the use of Styrofoam. Turn the lights off at night and turn down that thermostat when you are cooking all day. The heat from the kitchen should keep the house nice and warm!
Enjoy the holiday!
